A very cold morning greeted runners at Lake Joondalup for the State Road Championships. Many of Perth’s best middle distance runners such as Roberto Busi, Raf Baugh and Paul Mackay were looking very fit and chasing line honours. I was there to test Rocktape in race conditions after being very impressed with how it had enhanced my performance on my recent long training runs.
The Rocktape worked well and assisted me get through my first 10km race in over 18 months in a time of 37:39. I was using the race as a tempo run as part of my marathon preparation for the upcoming City 2 Surf marathon and I had hoped to sneak under 37 minutes. However, a combination of high mileage in the preceding week, and minimal sleep after attending a mate’s 40th birthday party on the previous night, caught up with me on the second 5km lap and I missed my goal time by 40 seconds.
Rocktape got some good exposure with 80% of the field behind me and they therefore were able to get glimpses of my calf muscles with the Rocktape crossed on each leg. I am sure the Rocktape aroused some interest as I fielded quite a few questions about the tape before and after the race!
Well done to Raf Baugh on securing 3rd spot in 31:12 despite being in heavy training for the Duathlon World Championships and David Cane who ran 34:34 and is obviously building a great base for the New York marathon later this year.
